An installed plate. They have sharp points on them and just pound in with a hammer. At first I was chiseling out beneath it so that it would be flush with the stud since I was worried my paneling wouldn’t lie flat, but it turns out that at least with 1/4″ tongue-in-groove, it handles well over the plates.
